Dudamel and how writing feels
by SJ Griffin
I have been accused of being relentlessly positive about the process of writing. And I will hold my hands up to that. I do think it is magnificent. If I didn’t to be perfect honest, I wouldn’t bother doing it. I do it because I enjoy it. A lot. Yeah, yeah, sometimes it’s hard and sometimes the problems take ages to solve and are so tedious they might as well be calculus. But when it’s going, really going it feels like Gustavo Dudamel conducting the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony (you know the one). Just look at how much fun he’s having. How much the music is really getting to him. Elevating him out of the mundane everyday into some other plane where everything is magnificent. Relentlessly positive? Guilty as charged.
